Donald Trump has received praise for being a dove when it comes to international affairs. His record and early cabinet selections tell a different story.
Every winning candidate since arguably Bush 1.0 (“Kinder, gentler America”) has run for office as a non-interventionist, and then morphed into John McCain immediately upon taking the Oath of Office. Not only that, but each president has arguably been a more reckless imperialist than his predecessor.
I don’t pretend to know how the process works, or even if it is the same for every president, but the results speak for themselves. (I suspect that it is like something out of "Yes, Minister" and not the more lurid fantasies of the paranoid fringe). Hell, look at Obama, who was elected in large part on a platform of ending the stupid wars. He not only failed to end a single war, he gave us a bunch of new and stupider ones.
And then there's Trump. He ran in 2016 as arguably an even more explicit non-interventionist than 2008 Obama, and he also didn't end anything and has brought us into new conflicts in Venezuela and Niger, as well as expanded our wars on Ukraine and Yemen.
TL:DR: unless and until the Deep State is eradicated root and branch, it matters not who is elected.
The only difference in Trump's foreign policy vs Biden's is a little less hawkish against Russia (possibly) and way more hawkish against China. They'll also not even pretend to care about Palestine like the democrats. People seem to like Tulsi Gabbard, but ignore her long terrible history.
Doug Burgum who is pro-urbanist and possibly Kennedy are the only OK picks although I'm very skeptical about Kennedy.
Trump is weak, stupid and easily manipulated.
